THE "ROGUE RIVER" Thrill seekers from around the world come to raft the Rogue River or hike the 60 mile trail to the coast that starts a few miles east of Merlin. The little hamlet of Merlin is located northeast of Grants Pass and is the home base for many outfitters and fishing guides. This and the fact that Merlin is close to the 84-mile segment of the Rogue River set aside by Congress under the National Wild and Scenic Rivers Act of 1968, is why Merlin is known as the "Gateway To The Wild & Scenic Rogue River."

CRATER LAKE is the centerpiece of Crater Lake National Park is the six mile wide Crater Lake, which lies in the collapsed caldera of a volcano inside Mount Mazama. Crater Lake National Park has two visitor centers staffed daily by park rangers and volunteers. The Steel Information Center is located at Park Headquarters and is open year round. Hours: 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The park movie is shown twice hourly. The Rim Visitor Center is located at Rim Village, near the Gift Shop and Café.

OREGON CAVES are located in Cave Junction, a scenic, small town just north of California located on Hwy. 199. It is approximately 30 miles southwest of Grants Pass. The Oregon Caves" are located about 20 miles east of town, off Hwy. 46. It serves as a home base for visitors from around the world, many of whom travel to the Illinois Valley to see the unique geologic wonder.
The wondrous Illinois River borders Cave Junction on the west. There are plenty of shops and other amenities available serving the 15,000 rural residents of the Illinois Valley, along with the thousands of visitors who pass through annually. The beautiful Illinois Valley and the surrounding area of Southern Oregon were once part of a continental margin.
